About Us

Navcon Engineering Network was incorporated in the State of California on June 22, 1987.

The business plan includes three principal elements:

  1. engineering consulting services
  2. technical trainings, and
  3. product sales and support.

Each business element is synergistic to the goal of supporting our customers’ noise and vibration needs. We understand that some companies are looking to the outside for turn-key engineering solutions while others want to develop in-house capabilities. Whether it is engineering services, trainings or hardware and software sales, Navcon is positioned to support your requirements.

Facilities:

Navcon is located in Fullerton, CA USA approximately 35 South of Los Angeles and 7 miles North of Disneyland.

The facilities include a 900 sq. ft. laboratory, seminar room and offices. Our laboratory is equipped with a center post auto lift, a 4 ton four post lift, a 13,000 lb. T-slot table, house air, 110/220 VAC power, a 2-ton gantry crane and dual high bay doors. Navcon has invested more than $1 million in test instrumentation, data acquisition systems and technical software.

In addition to more owning more than 200 noise and vibration transducers (uniaxial and triaxial structural, seismic and shock accelerometers; impact hammers and load cells; precision, array and high pressure blast microphones, etc.), low and high channel count dynamic signal analyzers, an assortment of electro-dynamic shakers and floor impact hammers, etc., we also have multiple PCB-Larson Davis sound level meters, environmental noise monitoring systems & head and torso simulators.

Navcon is also one of the few independent consulting firms in the United States which owns and operates a Polytec full field scanning laser vibrometer and fiber optic laser vibrometers.

Principals:

Jim Steedman (BSME, MSME) studied at the University of Cincinnati where he focused on modal testing, acoustic intensity and structureborne noise radiation. He has consulted in the field of noise and vibration measurement, analysis and control since 1978 working in both the commercial and military sectors.  Jim has traveled worldwide, consulting and presenting trainings and seminars on modal testing and analysis, acoustic intensity, environmental noise, and noise & vibration control.  Jim has also served as an Expert Witness in numerous law suits involving noise and vibration impact, personal injury and property damage.

Hans Forschner (Dipl. Ing.(FH)) studied at the University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart where he focused on physics, energy and noise.  He has more than 25 years’ experience in environmental noise modeling and noise control. Hans has conducted environmental noise projects for a variety of industries including road, rail, high speed rail, industrial facilities, petrochemical plants, power plants, co-generation facilities, wind energy and theme parks.  Hans has also been instructing and lecturing on environmental noise, indoor and outdoor noise modeling for more than 25 years.
