Single Fiber & Scanning Laser Vibrometers

Over the past 12 years Navcon Engineering Network has used Polytec Single Fiber Laser and Polytec Scanning Laser Vibrometer for projects involved light, small or very large structures.

The primary advantage of using a laser vibrometer is the ability to conduct non-contact measurement of surface velocity or displacement.   That eliminates the mass loading of structures by conventional piezoelectric transducers.  Another big advantage is that for certain measurement applications the laser measurements can be taken much faster, due to the effect that the setup time of accelerometers and the roving of accelerometers between measurement locations can be very time consuming.

Example Project:

A Single Fiber Laser was used to measure the Frequency Response characteristics of a Flat-Panel Loudspeaker System.

Due to the weight of the Flat-Panel any conventional transducer would mass load the system.  Only a non-contact measurements will give meaningful results.

Golf Club Head measurement were conducted to identify the club head resonance frequencies, the mode shapes & the damping factors.

The modal data was used for FE verification.

The PSV Scanning Laser Vibrometer  was used to acquire 200+ measurement locations on a Computer Board.  The animation shows the deflection at a particular frequency.

The modal data was used for FE verification.
